D.A.S.H.-Session One

On March 25th we had our first session of D.A.S.H.  (Disability Awareness Starts Here).

During the first session, the students experienced what is it like to be blind as they tried to identify different items while blind folded.  Using their sense of touch, taste, smell, and hearing the students began to understand the challenges a blind person may face.

Here are some pictures from our first DASH session.

The children enjoyed this amazing learning experience!

Mrs. Rec came for a visit

How excited we were when Mrs.  Rec was our guest reader for Read Across America.  Mrs.  Rec read some wonderful Dr.  Seuss books, and we got to meet her son Landon!

Class Read-a-thon

Dear Parents,
Recently, the children voted to have a class 'read-a-thon' as a reward for earning twenty stars!  The children had a wonderful time as they 'read to self' for the first fifteen minutes and then 'read with someone' for the last fifteen minutes.  Here are a few pictures of the event:

The Amazing Mr. Prazar!

Recently, Mr. Prazar visited the second grade classes to conduct a science experiment about polar animal adaptations and to share information about other animal's adaptation.  Using various materials such as batting, foam insulation, (replicas of blubber) and latex gloves (replica of skin), the students had to build a creature which could withstand the cold polar regions.  Through this experiment, the children gained a deeper understanding of the types of adaptations needed for animals who live in the Polar Regions.

Mr.  Prazar explains the experiment

Coming up with a plan!

Maybe this will work!

Now that's teamwork!

Let's figure this out!

Sharing information with the class

Collecting the data

Recording the temperature

Mr.  Prazar confers with the group

Thank you Mr.  Prazar!  You are an amazing scientist!
