The Amazing Mr. Prazar!

Recently, Mr. Prazar visited the second grade classes to conduct a science experiment about polar animal adaptations and to share information about other animal's adaptation.  Using various materials such as batting, foam insulation, (replicas of blubber) and latex gloves (replica of skin), the students had to build a creature which could withstand the cold polar regions.  Through this experiment, the children gained a deeper understanding of the types of adaptations needed for animals who live in the Polar Regions.

Mr.  Prazar explains the experiment

Coming up with a plan!

Maybe this will work!

Now that's teamwork!

Let's figure this out!

Sharing information with the class

Collecting the data

Recording the temperature

Thank you Mr.  Prazar!  You are an amazing scientist!

Super Tuesday in Second Grade!

vote button
Mrs.  Madden's class hosted a mock election for the second graders on Super Tuesday!  The students felt very grown up while voting.  Thank you Mrs.  Madden's class!

Polar Animals

Dear Parents,
We finished our culminating project for our Polar Animal Unit!  The students worked extremely hard while creating their Chatterpixs slide.  In addition to showcasing their artistic talents, the children researched the habitat, life cycle, and adaptations of a polar animal of their choice.  The students wrote a script in the first person sharing a few facts researched, and then practiced reading their script with expression before being recorded. Check out what our scientists learned about Polar Animals:

Penguin Lady!

Today, Dyan deNapoli, the 'Penguin Lady', visited the second graders of Steward School.  The children were enthralled with all the fascinating facts Dyan shared.  One fact that always surprises the students is penguins do have knees!  Ask your child to share other facts he/she learned from the Penguin Lady!

A penguin does have knees!

Tristan and Sadie help Dyan show the difference between an albatross and a penguin's wing span.

Dyan shares facts about the worlds largest penguin, the Emperor Penguin!

Many thanks are sent to TESPTO for bringing this worthwhile and educational event to Steward School!
